01Front office

The paperwork comes first.

A registered company (SSM), a valid licence from your local council and, for food, a food premises registration from the Ministry of Health. You must have been fully operating for at least three months, with at least three months of halal documents and records ready for the audit. Records are kept for at least three years.

02Store

Every ingredient, traced.

Every raw material must be traceable to the company that made it, and anything from an animal needs a valid halal certificate. Purchase records for raw materials are among the documents the auditor asks to see.

03Processing floor

Muslim staff, every shift.

Permanent Malaysian Muslim staff must work in the processing area for every operating period or shift: at least one in micro and small companies, at least two in medium and large ones. Only halal products are made or handled here, and every product made at the premises goes on the application.

04Hygiene

Clean, and written down.

Cleaning runs to a schedule. Pest control is regular, in-house or contracted, and recorded. Hand-washing points work, bins are covered, and personal items, food and drink stay out of the processing area. Every food handler holds a food handler training certificate and a valid anti-typhoid vaccination.

05Surau

A place to pray.

Muslim staff need a prayer room or space that is well placed, big enough and well kept, and time for their daily prayers, Friday prayers included. JAKIM also asks for a changing room, a place to eat or rest, and storage for personal belongings.

06Packing & labels

Names that pass.

No "halal" in your company, product, menu or brand names. Names that refer to or resemble non-halal products, such as ham, bacon, beer, rum, hot dog, bak kut teh or char siew, are not eligible.

You apply. JAKIM decides.

You apply on MYeHALAL under your own account: JAKIM deals with the company directly, never through consultants. After the document check, the fee and the site audit, the Malaysian Halal Certification Panel decides. Pass, and a food and drink product certificate runs for two years.

What does MNS Modulaz do?

MNS Modulaz Sdn. Bhd. is a halal consultancy and training company in Bukit Beruntung, Rawang, Selangor, and a JAKIM Strategic Partner under MIHA (certificate RSMIHA-2026-025, valid to 31 May 2029). We prepare businesses for JAKIM halal certification and train teams in halal, MeSTI, GMP and HACCP.

What do we need before we apply for a JAKIM halal certificate?

For food and drink products: SSM registration and a local-council licence, at least three months of full operation, halal-only production, permanent Malaysian Muslim staff in the processing area (one for micro and small firms, two for medium and large; small firms add a Halal Supervisor, medium and large firms a Halal Executive and an internal halal committee), traceable ingredients, scheduled cleaning and pest control, trained and anti-typhoid-vaccinated food handlers, a prayer space for Muslim staff, and names and labels that follow JAKIM's rules.

How much does JAKIM charge?

Under JAKIM's 2020 manual: RM20 to process each application, then a yearly certification fee by annual turnover: RM100 for micro businesses (under RM300,000), RM400 for small, RM700 for medium and RM1,000 for large. Food premises pay RM100 per premises per year. Our consultancy fees are separate.

How long is a Malaysian halal certificate valid?

Two years for food and drink products and for food premises; three years for cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, consumer goods, logistics, contract manufacturing (OEM) and medical devices; one year for slaughterhouses. Renewals go in between six and three months before the certificate expires.

Can a consultant apply to JAKIM for us?

No. JAKIM's manual says the authority deals directly with the company applying, not through third parties such as consultants. Our job is to get your business and your team ready, so that your own application goes in complete.

Is halal certification only for food businesses?

No. JAKIM certifies nine schemes: food and drink products, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, food premises, consumer goods, logistics, slaughterhouses, contract manufacturing (OEM) and medical devices. The businesses on our Tahniah posters include Euroasia Total Logistics and RHS Chemical.

Can a company outside Malaysia get JAKIM halal certification?

Yes. A factory outside Malaysia has two programmes: certification by one of the 96 foreign halal certification bodies JAKIM recognises in 49 countries or regions (FHCB), or, since 1 January 2024, JAKIM's Halal International Program, in which a company in Malaysia, such as a subsidiary, importer, distributor or agent, applies and JAKIM audits the plant for a 2-year certificate. A product made in Malaysia, at the company's own plant or a contract manufacturer that holds JAKIM's OEM certificate, follows JAKIM's domestic manual. Relabelling finished imports without processing them in Malaysia is not eligible.
